Hubby is on a healthy diet to get his cholesterol down so when we dine out we are looking for fish and vegetables menu. Last Saturday night, we choose GAMA seafood resto. This resto is quite popular among seafood lovers in Semarang as they provide wide choices of fish and seafood.

Hubby order ikan kuah asam (sour fish soup) Rp. 18.000 :

It came in very large bowl but the fish is just a small bandeng laut (milk fish from the sea not from the brackish pond) cut in 3 pieces. The stock is sour indeed (from the kaffir lime) and very refreshing. We like the fish, the texture is firm but soft and it fresh also.

I order Gurame bakar polos (grilled gourami) Rp. 36000 :

Usually, their grill fish is perfect, this time..a little bit too salty. But still they don’t over grilled it and it’s still soft and juicy.

For the veggie dish, we order stir fry organic daun raja (12.000) :

This dish is delicious, the daun raja is crunchy and not overcooked. They sprinkle some crispy “teri” (tiny sea fish) over it, really nice and the smokey aroma is quite strong.

Indonesian people cannot be separated from sambal (chilly sauce) and GAMA resto provide some different kinds of chilly sauce for free, you can take as much as you want for free. Here is all the sambal they provide that night : sambal kedondong (some kind of fruit), sambal kecap (sweet soy chilly sauce), samabl tomat (tomato), sambal dabu-dabu (made from green tomato, fresh shallot and chilly), sambal lombok ijo (green chilly), sambal terasi (condiment made from pounded and fermented shrimp or small fish) :

aneka-sambal

Overall the dishes are ok but not spectacular.

The restaurant is suitable for a gathering of a large group or family reunion as the space is quite big. They also offer chicken dishes for those who want something else than seafood.
